The Art Institute of Vancouver was awarded a Highly Commended trophy at the Wine & Spirit Education Trust’s (WSET) annual awards ceremony held in London’s famous Guildhall on January 18, 2010.

The award is open to individuals and companies who have made a significant contribution to WSET courses and qualifications in the previous year whilst demonstrating commitment and innovation in education.  The Art Institute of Vancouver is the only provider of WSET courses that has been shortlisted for the Educator of The Year Award in each of the past three years since the award was conceived.

According to Ian Harris, Chief Executive of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, the judging panel was "very impressed with (The Art Institute’s) continued success at all levels of WSET qualification." The Art Institute of Vancouver was the only short-listed educator to receive the Highly Commended award.

“We are extremely proud to be the recipient of this prestigious award from the WSET” said Mark Shipway, The Art Institute’s Wine Department Head, “our commitment is to the delivery of the highest quality of wine education and this is reflected in our pass rates which are amongst the highest all the WSET  program providers.”

2008/09 was also a milestone year for The Art Institute of Vancouver in delivery of the WSET Diploma program with 13 students graduating from the program - a record number in a single year in Western Canada.
